A cool morning does not need a heavy coat. A soft knit over a simple dress, a hat that stays put, and shoes that are happy in the grass will carry a child from the door to the park.
Start with the piece they already want to wear, then add one warm layer they can take off when they start to run. The outfit should move with them, not hold them still.
